Where Do You Find Confidence?
If you look up the words self confidence in the dictionary you will see two definitions. One says it is the realistic confidence in one’s abilities, power, and judgment. The other notes that self confidence is the excessive or inflated confidence in one’s abilities, power and judgment. Can you see the difference? One denotes humility in the abilities, power and judgment given to us by our Creator. The other denotes an arrogant, prideful, boastful, inflated confidence.
If you are a Christian, your confidence comes from your Creator. He created us in His image and we all know He has full confidence in His abilities. So the obvious is that we would have confidence in our abilities and gifts that He created in us. Remember what Ephesians 2:10 says? Here’s the Amplified Version: “For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].” Merriam Webster online dictionary says that masterpiece is many times “its creator’s greatest achievement.” Do you get the sense of your value to your Creator? We are His greatest achievement!
Do you know your value as a child of the King? You have great value to God, your Creator and He says so in Psalm 139:13-16. But let’s look at verse 17 and 18 in the Amplified Version. “ 17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 If I could count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.” Wow! Our Creator thinks about us all the time. I’m talking about you and me. Not us in the plural but each individual child of His!
Here’s another Scripture to confirm our value and reason for confidence. Colossians 2:9-10 in the New Living Translation says: “ 9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” Another Wow! You are complete because you are a believer and Jesus lives in you!
So, just knowing our value to our Creator can help us with a healthy dose of self-confidence. Not the arrogance of the world but the self-confidence that comes from knowing who your Father is!
